Sometimes Dance Gets Better

I produced the following series for my Making Meaning class as my final project for the fall 2013 semester.

The idea for the assignment was based off of a prior exercise, where my classmates and I (individually) transcribed a 30 minute conversation that we had recorded among our friends. After each of us transcribed our conversations, we then randomly distributed our printed versions to someone else in our class.
Then from the conversation we were randomly given, we had to find context/text that would provide us
with a concept for a final 24 x 36'' poster.

What I ultimately used from my assigned conversation was a single phrase that I personally thought was random, entertaining and inspirational:
Sometimes dance gets better.

I wanted my composition to address the duality of dance in today's society: the grace that is exhibited in finer forms of dance such as ballet or modern, versus the phenomenon of dance moves such as grinding or twerking that is dominating the majority of pop culture.
