Separable Reusable Container | IDDE 201 Project

“Prepared food is often sent with a mountain of packaging that within an hour is destined for the landfill. To continue this practice is unconscionable. With the popularity of multibillion dollar food delivery industries such as Doordash, Grubhub, Uber Eats, etc. we can anticipate that delivery of prepared food will continue to be popular”.
——Amos Scully

In this project, I designed a take away container for RIT student dining working with prototypes. As a designer I have an ethos to create sustainable products while making the user experience great.
The "Compression Unit" consists of the top lid, the bottom plate and two tapes. In order to use it, the user first needs to loosen the two tapes and then place the sandwich on the bottom plate. After that, the user needs to pull the two tapes tightly and then stick them to the sides.

This design can ensure that the sandwich in the container will not fall apart even under violent shaking.
