Coraline reinterpretation~

~ Some secrets should stay behind little doors ~
Here is a project of retinterpretation of an important story from my childhood. I choose Coraline - even if I must admit I hesitated with Alice in Wonderland. This is, by the way, the illustration homework that gave me the idea to do Alice, Coraline and Little Red Riding Hood fort Halloween !

I discovered the LRRH when I was 3 or 4, at school. Then I discovered Coraline when it was adaptated by Henry Selick, it was one of my Christmas' presents ! I immediately loved it, and I felt the same when, some months after, I discovered Alice in Wonderland, by Tim Burton. The most part of children of my age who saw those both movies were traumatized, and while Angela Anaconda really scared me, Coraline and Alice inspired and fascinated me. I discovered no long after the books, and I loved it as much as the films.
Working about my own universes is a huge pleasure, but illustrating something about my favorite universes is also a pleasure, totally different.

Also, I was inspired by the illustrated version of the book by the French illustrator Aurélie Neyret (baguette u know). In the book of Neil Gaiman, the autor ain't really described the appearance of Coraline - he only said the had a fringe and was little for a girl of her age. We don't even really know her age ! If she's not so small in the movie, has no fringe and is a white skinned blue haired girl with brown eyes and freckles, Aurélie Neyret made her white skinned and small, with a fringe, but with white hair. She gave me the desire to make her, on a part, as I saw her in my childhood movie, and on another part absolutely different.
I would love to illustrate a new edition of those universes that I love.

Thanks for reading and watching ! Hope you liked what you saw.
