Mediums without language barriers

Artist Statement

Words and I never got along. I had always struggled with expressing my emotions, my thoughts and my feelings verbally. This detachment led me into searching for an alternative. This is how I met drawing and fell in love. Somehow, I became more expressive with my drawings. Ironically, I used paper and pencil just like one does when writing words, but in my case, I was drawing my heart out, as drawing had become my medium to communicate. Somewhere along those lines, I found my second love which was photography. Just like drawing, it doesn’t require words to be expressed but has its own story to tell, and my photos were speaking it all for me. I don’t know how I stumbled into the territory of music of different languages, but all I know is that ever since I did, I’ve never looked backed. I realized how just like my first and second love, music doesn’t require a language either. It connects to you itself doesn’t matter if it is in Korean or in English. This is what I wanted to portray with this project. How three things which are so close to my heart can become one, a medium with no language barrier. These three things helped me express and speak without saying anything, and now I wanted to inspire others. These photographs are based on some lyrics which moved me, and then I drew over them to finish the missing puzzle. Keep in mind, these pictures are a representation of me in some way. If you remove any one of the three from it, it would lose its meaning just like I might.
