"Hairy Memory" Open necklace / 2021
Inspired by Victorian mourning jewelry that takes the hair of the deceased loved one, usually braided and circling a photograph of the person. I took two bundles of my own
hair I cut over 3 years ago- I kept it with no particular reason in mind and I felt it fits so naturally into this theme. In this piece, instead of keeping close the memory of a loved one, I keep the memory of a part of me (my old hair) close to my heart. Wearing and Playing with my hair as a kind of ritual, to remind me to stay close and attentive to myself. In recent times we forget about being conscious of ourselves and being aware of our mental health and well-being.

I made a silver tube to hold the hair in and added a stainless-steel chain so the length can allow the wearer to play with the hair as we do normally with our hair sometimes.
Materials: Silver 925, Stainless steel, Human hair.
