Make in India- Handlooms Poster Design
India is steeped in centuries of history and culture, that has culminated into the nation we know it as today, its achievements and shortcomings alike. As the country progresses towards a future where we see a land that is self-reliant, we must not lose sight of where we come from. An integral part of this Indian history is the way in which we make things, one that seems to be slipping away. The way of Indian handicrafts and handlooms is one that has withstood the test of time and change. As we seek atmanirbharta, we must look at these ways to achieve it. Not only would that empower Indian artisans who have carried these crafts through generations, but it is also one of the most sustainable ways of making. Recontextualizing handicraft and handloom techniques is the most effective way forward. The poster I have created attempts to do just that, depicting the hands of a weaver working away at a hand loom, presented in a different light, with bold colours and a simplified imagery.
