Police Department is located in Sietyno street, Vilnius, Lithuania. The land is limited by clear urban and natural formants: R. Jankausko, V. Maciuleviciaus and Sietyno streets, and a narrow strech of the forest array. Land area is characterized by expressed relief. So naturally and expressively existing natural environment does not require any large desposits to the formation artificially.

 

The plot stands out not only by a high relief, but also by its proportion. The length and widht ratio is 227x21 meters. This complicates the design and planning, but also asks a clear concept for the volume.

 

 

For other department visitors the entrance to the building is near R. Jankauskas street. So the flows are separated by the maximum. 

 

This department has 4 types of parking: 22 parking places for the visitors in the northeast, 54 overground parking places for the police employees, 29 parking places under the shelter for the service transport and 38 parking places in the underground floor for the service cars storage.

Functional structure forming is based on grouping similar areas, ensuring clear and smooth touch. The main thing is to separate traffic flows of police officers and headquarters visitors.

On the ground floor are all areas and service available for visitors. The first security zone includes interrogation rooms, migration and public police departments. At the next area there are detainees visitation rooms. On the first floor visitors can also reach the chef and administration departments, the conference room. In the second security zone there are DNA sampling laboratories, shooting rooms.

 

Police staff has three access routes directly designed from the parking sites. In the southern part of the staircase it is an access to the detention facility, located just north staircase for quick public police patrol responding to calls. 

On the ground floor there is also the fird security zone with the precinct, public police department and a part of special facilities (gym, combat training hall). On the first floor there are rulers and administration department, criminalists department and operational department, laboratories, classrooms. Recreation areas are evenly spread throughout the volume of the light tunnels - small atriums. But the largest recration areas are focused at the rear. There is a dinning area, gym, areas for relaxation. 

 

Territory analysis shows a clear linear structure: linear natural and urban elements are recuring in the north . Therefore it is sought that the linear concept of the situation will reflect inside the building: structure, planning and interior.

 

Another important aspect of the concept - the specific structure of the police department building and the traffic flows. Linearity idea invoked not only in the planning, but also in the spatial project development. By the combination of line heights and thus exploiting the existing topography there was created different accesses to the building at different levels.

 

Linear structure dictated the clear and strict forms of conceptual and rational volume, which influenced a structured layout. In order to emphasize the expressive terrain, 50 percent of the volume was suspended above the ground, the hanging volume was based on the contrasting slender, black columns - this is an allusion to the dense forest near the array.

 

 

 

In order to create a harmonious combination of the external and internal structure, at the next rear of the building on the second floor there is conference room designed by analogy hanging console. That glazed rear of the building allows the internal structure be seen from the outside. Therefore, even in the visible exterior of the internal structure is closely related to the outside.

 

Big attention was devoted to the insolation. Classrooms are focused on the north side for more comfortable working conditions with the computers. For illuminating the interior spaces there are designed skylights - essentially to the transfer of light to the ground floor. Glass and linit was chosen the facades for the maximum lightening.
