Project Scope
I was contracted to propose and design a solution to enable the locking of one row of caster wheels when all wheels on the furniture are not easily accessible. Unlike other solutions on the market for casters, involving the locking of individual wheels or all 4 wheels at once (floor-lock), the solution should be able to engage a lock from the side of the cart, if the cart is against a wall and only one side of the cart is accessible.
The Solution
A locking bar assembly was provided as the solution where two 3d printed parts were bolted on the brake pedals. These two parts were connected through the middle with a coupling rod made from styrene plastic thus unifying the motion of two brake pedals and enabling the locking from one side only.


The Process
Step 1: Representative CAD model of the cart was designed and an existing CAD model of the selected caster wheels was sourced from the supplier's website.
Step 2: Parts were assembled according to provided dimensions
Step 3: Sourced a suitable plastic angular rod for the coupling bar. Modeled all the parts in Solidworks.



Step 4: Preparation of a detailed BOM (Bill of Materials) 

Step 5: Preparation of a Detailed 2D technical drawings.
