The Advanced Hardhat

The Advanced Hardhat is an interactive prototype I designed to further improve user experience in the workplace. This hardhat was created for the worker who is required to have and wear multiple forms of personal protective equipment such as a hard hat, safety  glasses, radio headset, and other items worn on the head and neck. This hardhat has automated flip down safety glasses integrated to create a better experience for the user on the job.

Establishing Questions:
Can you see yourself using this prototype every day? - why or why not?
Does this prototype make your life easier? - why or why not?
Do you prefer this over the traditional hardhat and glasses? - why or why not?
What changes would you make to this hard hat to make it better?
User: Chuck - Engineer
I would not use this every day because I don’t wear a hardhat every day, however this would be useful in times when I’m required to visit a jobsite. It ensures I don’t forget one or the other. That would make my life easier and it looks cool.
One thing I would change is the glasses, they are scuffed.
User: Pat - Engineer
Super cool hardhat. I would use this in the field because it helps me keep up with both items. This makes my life easier, so I do prefer this over the traditional set up.
For improvements I would like a version with sunglasses on them, because I only wear a hardhat when I’m outside.

User: John - Electrician
I would use this when we are working on a site that requires this level of PPE. I think its pretty handy and I’ve never seen somebody wearing one like this.
For improvements I would like to see a more updated hardhat, and an option for sunglasses; maybe have it come with two glasses that are interchangeable.

User: Grant - Warehouse worker
I like your invention, and I think it would be very useful during times when I’m required to wear a hardhat. I would definitely use this at work if it fit my head better. The only change I would make is to the mounts. They need to be adjustable for different head sizes.
