The paintings are showing my self-knowledge journey: In 2018, I began to learn more about traumas, patterns, wounds, and the steps leading to healing. Anyone who has done this self-work before is sure to know what a roller coaster it is: the 3 paintings capture the deepest points of these nearly 4 years. Although the series is quite personal, I’m sure the topics are familiar to many: pain, breakage, or even healing, scarring, destruction, or tearing. The peculiarity of the current series is that it is not limited to the end result, the act of creation plays a significant role, as the making of the paintings can be paralleled with spiritual processes. While creating these paintings, I went through states that I have experienced in my journey of self-knowledge as well. F.e. I had to soften certain surfaces to make them able to be formed: after a long scraping, tearing, or milling, they became like an open wound that I could sew together. This series isn’t about beauty, so if it triggers disgust, resentment, or anything like that at first, that’s perfectly fine. I noticed that the more I watch them, the less I see them scary - and that’s what I have to do with my demons too.
