Lost In Translation : Central Saint Martins, UAL & Local Giving UK
Project Type : Social Design, Experience Design, Creative-Copywriting, Product Design, Presentation Design
Creative Team : Niki Liu, Pippa Harrison, Monty Smith and Aishwarya Agarwal

Problem : With an increase in globalisation, many students and young individuals find themselves studying and working abroad. Often, their accents and native languages differ from that of the country/city they migrate to. Language barriers lead to hampered communication which further leads to the sufferers facing mental health issues, social isolation, discrimination, intensification of cultural barriers and deterioration of the workplace/university atmosphere.

Solution : We at collaborated with Central Saint Martins and Local Giving UK to create a stir on the topic. Language hurdle has nothing to do with the actual intelligence or ability to grasp the concept behind what you’re trying to say. “Lost In Translation” aims at aiding language barrier issues through collective consciousness. Use of hashtag culture, quirky merchandise, social games allows the community to participate and normalise language differences in a candid way.
Process involved research, surveys, experimental methods, user-testing, highlighting the problem to find solutions.
