Rotoscoping VFX

Rotoscoping was one of the first things I decided to try out in Nuke - I used the Non-Commercial version as I wanted to use the software simply for educational purposes.

I decided to test out some of the rotoscoping tools on a short clip (34 frames) of Bethany Walker/Professor Sheldon "Shelly" Oberon (portrayed by Jack Black) from Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017).

Since there was some slight camera movement, I first stabilised the shot using the two-point tracker function to ease the rotoscoping process. I also used global motion blur on the open splines/beziers to create a more accurate matte for the moving hands in the source clip. After I had successfully masked out the character, I linked a matchmove node to the roto node, and here was what I had for the final outcome:
I made sure to break down each body part/clothings into simpler shapes for a more efficient rotoscoping workflow.
The following is also another of my rotoscoping WIP, using a clip that I shot on my DSLR Nikon D5200. I find this to be quite a bit of a challenge since there are many hair strands, and requires more time and patience to complete.
Thanks for looking!
