" When the weather starts to make drastic transitions into more consistent rainy and snowy days during the Fall and Winter seasons, it’s important that your wardrobe is ready to keep you protected (cause let’s be real, wet socks are a major pet peeve). Luckily, adidas and Y-3 have introduced a brand new footwear model titled the adidas Y-3 Terrex Swift R3 GORE-TEX, and it has just launched in a stealthy color palette. Height-wise, the kicks are cut in similar fashion to an army boot and they come designed with a fashion forward and technical aesthetic. Uppers arrive with multiple layers, and feature cages that attach to rear of the lateral and medial sides, slightly lipped-out heel pieces, elastic straps that sit on the quarters and double stacked overlays on the toe boxes, all of which is lined with GORE-TEX to fight off wetter weather conditions. Branding is primarily present in two sections: on the lower quarters which feature a “GORE-TEX” hit and adidas Y-3 notations as well as the midsoles which have a debossed “Swift R3” slapped on in tonal fashion. Drawing on the decidedly conflicting nature of the time in which we live, since its debut on the hallowed runways of Paris Fashion Week almost two decades ago,
Y-3 has always been defined by the unconventional exploration and fearless subversion of inherent contradictions. It perhaps goes without saying, but as a sportswear brand, adidas is not new to the outdoors. Not long after its first foray into performance adventure-wear in the 1970s, in 1980 the brand planted its stake in the ground. Always committed to relentlessly pushing boundaries, it put the industry on notice by designing super-lightweight hiking shoes, especially crafted for tackling perilous ascents. Four decades on, and adidas continues to reimagine the conventions of the world of outdoors performance-ready gear. Today, the brand's outdoors arm, TERREX, with whom Y-3 have produced a small capsule collection, has become synonymous with forward - thinking designs, imbued with adidas· most innovative technologies and crafted to help protect the wearer in all-weather conditions.

For the Y-3 design team, the decision to work with TERREX was simple:
"WE WANTED THE SHOE TO PERFORM LIKE A HIGH PERFORMANCE OUTDOOR BOOT WITH HEIGHTENED FUNCTIONALITY, DURABILITY, PROTECTION, GRIP AND COMFORT SO IT WAS ONLY NATURAL THAT WE PARTNERED WITH THE EXPERTS FROM THE BRAND."
The shoe itself features a number of signature details, including a midsole that riffs off of the new TERREX SWIFT R3, a padded ankle panel and a rubber toe-box taken from climbing silhouettes, as well as a progressive lacing and zip system which conceals a neoprene gusset underneath its dynamic form. Working with TERREX, however, is just one part of the story. Providing the constitutive construction upon which all the details listed above are built, the shoe boasts a waterproof lining and membrane produced using GORE-TEX materials. In addition, the Y-3 TERREX SWIFT R3 GTX's outsole is composed of Continental™ rubber and is chosen for its elevated traction in all-weather conditions.
Aesthetically daring yet fervently functional, the team from Y-3 have described the unconventional silhouette as:
"A DOWN JACKET FOR YOUR FEET, WITH ENHANCED GRIP ON THE GROUND."
In short, the Y-3 TERREX SWIFT R3 GTX has been designed as much for rugged cliff-side navigation as it has for "apres-ski" socialising. Yet another exploration of paradoxical contradictions, the shoe is at once stylish, comfortable and undeniably robust. As is customary for Y-3, there's one final twist: for its inaugural launch the trainer-boot arrives in two innately familiar yet uniquely evocative colourways: Vintage White/Y-3 Black/Bold Orange and Y-3 Black/Bold Orange.
