The support of AbbVie, a global biopharma company that continues its activities to develop advanced treatments for some of the world's most serious and complex diseases and put them at the service of medicine; The project, implemented in cooperation with the Turkish Rheumatology Association, the Association for Information and Support for Rheumatism Patients (Romaturka) and Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Industrial Product Design Department, brought an award to Turkey.

Within the production process of the bottle and can opener product which won the first prize, the design done by the student, modeled to be 3D print-ready and its inner structure planned to be tough & durable. Then, within the prototyping process the 3D printer outputs are sanded, painted, stainless parts added, and all assembled to be given to 20 selected pilot RA patients by AbbVie Türkiye.

The design project, which was implemented in order to explain the difficulties experienced by Rheumatoid Arthritis patients in their daily lives, to raise awareness of the importance of early diagnosis by increasing social awareness; The Rheumatism Patients Information and Support Association (Romaturka) was awarded the “Best Project” award at the annual conference of Pare (People with Arthritis/Rheumatism in Europe), the Patient Associations organization of EULAR, Europe's largest Rheumatology Congress, held in Lisbon.

In the project, the preparation process of which was started 1 year ago; cooperation with university, patients and physician associations, studies were started. During the preparation phase, the students who were going to design often met with RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis) patients and observed what the patients needed. Projects worked on during the academic year were evaluated. Among 80 different projects, 4 projects that could facilitate the daily life of RA patients were awarded by expert jury members. In the project where designs aiming to facilitate the daily lives of RA patients were selected; Bottle and can opener design won the first prize, nail clipper design second, shower head unit third and toothpaste squeezer design fourth. In the project, where the winners were announced with a press conference and exhibition on 12 October World Arthritis Day, the winning designs were exhibited at the 24-29 October National Rheumatology Congress. With the award in Lisbon, the project added an international dimension to awareness activities for RA patients.
