I approached my final table project using texture experiments from the beginning of the semester to inform an interactive design that highlights the sense of touch. You are meant to sit into the table and focus on the texture underneath your fingertips. The table top removes to become a lapdesk which you can more intimately experience or use as a platform to put your sketchbook, current novel, etc. on. I created this table to create a space for myself to be able to relax and focus.
All joinery and shaping was done using hand tools. After the first stages of milling and cutting lumber to it's final dimensions, I used various hand tools such as a Japanese pull-cut saw, block/ jack plane, rasp and file to create the look and structure that I wanted.
The Serenity Touch Table is made of solid cherry, with a tung oil finish.
