Retreat Mobile Space

As an introvert, most of the time, I feel overwhelmed and a bit oppressed by working in an open space every day (yes, even in the Covid-19 period...). The idea of this project came out while walking back home after a busy day, and all I had in mind was to have some quiet time in the middle of nowhere. Several modules, made out of wood and mirrors, are assembled to create a temporary retreat in nature.

The panels are assembled to create a central scene, with no ceiling, offering a connection with the sky. The use of mirrors should not be seen as a synonym of vanity but as a way to force self-observation, self-reflection and, in the end, self-acceptance. When I thought about this space, I saw myself dancing in it or doing some yoga, a kind of self-retreat to the everyday rhythm. I hope some of you can relate to having a similar escape...
(The characters are inspired by the remarkable ballet Siddharta by Angelin Preljocaj, which is about finding yourself through doubts and darkness, I thought the comparison was relevant...)

The panels surround a wooden floor (or can be used on their own). Once assembled, the plan looks like a mandala, a symbolic form to support meditation and the connection with the surroundings. When the panels are aligned, they help create a clear distinction of what we can consider as a sacred inside space and a profane outside space to support the idea of self-enlightenment. The panels are equipped with wheels to move them and open the space when ready.
