Typeface A2 Poster
Information on Whitney Font
Designed by type designer Tobias Frere–Jones in 2004, Whitney Font is a new graphic identity created for New York Whitney Museum. The font embraces the inventive spirit of the Museum, and signals other changes afoot as the Whitney prepared to shift to a new building the next year.
Characteristics
The terminals of Whitney Font's letters are uniquely angled to show energy and dynamism. To show this distinct character in the poster, I cropped the large letters of 't' and 'l' to show only the angled terminals. The elements in the poster were also tilted to the same angle to further the font's liveliness .
Another characteristic of the font is its readability. Whitney Font was designed to allow tight leading and easy reading. The top part of the poster was designed to show this characteristics, where the font is used with a tight leading no matter the points of the type.
