Chinese idioms are often considered to be the collective wisdom of Chinese culture that consolidate experiences, moral concepts, and admonishments throughout history in only four characters .
To engage students , a fun illustrative design approach is taken for this dictionary. The idioms are drawn out with simple geometric shapes that is easy to understand. Though the drawings sometimes may only take the face explanation of the idioms, it is a good entry point for the students to make them feel less intimated and hopefully they will find out more about the true meanings of these idioms. Illustrative icons are also used as section markers inside the dictionary to liven up the page layouts.
