QUT Impact Lab: OrangeSky Laundry

OrangeSky have determined the lack of use and lack of popularity of laundromats across the country as potential opportunity to further their charity venture. Laundromats are associated with a 'shady', 'dirty' and poor stigma that needs to be eliminated. In order eradicate and eliminate these negative expressions aligned with laundromats OrangeSky is striving to provide a solution that can build community, form higher options and create a loving brand whilst also keeping their funding in mind. Recognising that it is most likely not viable for OrangeSky in terms of finance to purchase a current laundromat, a solution involving the idea of a Toolbox was discovered. Creating a Toolbox allows OrangeSky to replicate and repeat their plans across other existing laundromats throughout the nation. Our solution of a toolbox would include a three tier program. This would supply Laundromat owners with the chance to become as involved or as least involved with the brand as they please and their involvement with the OrangeSky toolbox would form a partner contract and association with the brand.
Across the 3 separate tiers OrangeSky will always offer operating hours where their free washing services are provided. Also during this time OrangeSky will be have the chance to run community events depending on their location and days of OrangeSky operation. These events could include Sunday morning breakfast cook ups with coffee, sit down activities (chats, card games, boardgames) and potentially suppling the laundromats with a pingpong table to include a entertaining, fun factor. These small activities and events would help form new communities at different laundromats. Encouraging connections between volunteers, the general public, OrangeSky friends and laundromat workers, demonstrating the large impact that the design concept would have.
