Pi Beta Phi from my Eyes

As said by many people, college is what you make for yourself. It can be the best four years of your life or the four most miserable. Of course academics and doing well in class should be every student’s first priority. However, universities like Louisiana State University offer many additional opportunities for students. As a matter of fact, being in extracurricular activities often helps students to be more organized and ultimately do better in classes. From athletics, clubs, intermural sports and Greek life there is never something not to participate in. Being in a Greek organization can bring many opportunities. There is much more to being in a sorority than just having social events with fraternities. From philanthropy events, sisterhood retreats, values taught at meetings every week and so much more, there is always something to keep you involved and motivated. Also, every organization is unique to the other. It is a special thing to figure out exactly where you fit in and how you will affect your chapter throughout your life. After all, everyone wants to be apart of something. Everyone wants to make a different in some way. Being a part of a Greek organization is a great way to accomplish both of these dreams.

I am a member of the Louisiana Beta Chapter of Pi Beta Phi at Louisiana State University. It is the first ever women’s fraternity to be create. It was founded on April 28, 1867 at Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois by 12 original founders. There are now 137 chapters across the United States now, but my passion is focused on the Louisiana Beta chapter I have been personally affiliated with since 2012. As the future Vice President of Event Planning of my chapter, I would like to give a closer look of what Pi Beta Phi at Louisiana State University is all about. We hav our own unique traditions, our own goals and of course our own friendships created in our chapter. From my eyes to yours, here is Pi Beta Phi.

Pi Beta Phi has sisterhood events at least twice a month. It is an event only for our chapter and is a great oppotunity for everyone to bond as a chapter. Most recently was our crafting Christmas party.
It has been proven that Greek students at Louisiana State University make higher GPAs than non-greek students. At Pi Beta Phi, our Chapter overall GPA goal for the Fall 2013 semester is a 3.25.
Every Chapter has their own history. At Pi Beta Phi we learn new facts about our founders at every Chapter meeting. We are motivated to know the history and remember that we are the future.
It is a tradition for girls who live in the Pi Phi house to decorate their closet doors with as many Pi Phi memories as possible. Throughout the school year the closets start to overflow with pictures.
As the second largest Pi Beta Phi chapter in the nation, the LA Beta Chapter has won many awards throughout the years. Friendly competition is constantly being promoted.
One of the most exciting parts of being in an organization is the traditions. One of the traditions of Pi Beta Phi is a "Cookie Shrine." Every member rubs the bottom of the pan for good luck, takes a piece of cookie, then signs the sheet.
The biggest personal reward of being in a greek organization is the life long friendships made. One of the national values of Pi Beta Phi is sincere friendship.
It can be scary to leave the house you have lived in your whole life. Pi Beta Phi is open to be every member's home away from home, anytime and all the time.
