SHADOW OF LIFE
The concept for this work came from my want to study patterns, and how to create a pattern on the face. I developed further to become my series, “Shadow of Life”, which means a living shadow. The meaning of Life in this piece is the life of parents who are destined to meet and gave birth to a new life. That is the life called family. The series of my work include three pictures. A picture of mom on the left. A picture of my sister in the center also called a picture of daughter. And a picture of dad on the right. If we look closely, we can see the half-resemblance between my sister and her parents. The shadow on each face has hidden meaning. The shadow on my father's face is the shadow of butterflies. The shadow on my mother's face is the shadow of the flowers. In the center, the shadow that on my sister or daughter is the shadow of the leaves. The message which I want to convey is as butterflies pick up pollen from flowers, new plant can grow. It is like the fact that parents together produce new life. So, I want to arrange the photos in sequence to make it easy to understand. I try to convey a message that there is something in our lives that connect. The sharp shadow on your father's face implies the strength and leadership. The soft shadow on the mother’s face shows tenderness. The shadow on the daughter’s face shows that she has both strength and gentleness. Each person has his or her own shadow and own path.
