Bryan Charnley was a painter diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. He decided to reduce and then stop taking the medication prescribed for treating his condition, and while doing so, to paint a series of self-portraits which he hoped would convey his internal experience during that process. Art has been and will still be an escape to many individuals and expression is almost everything in this field. I've been interested lately in Bryan's story and decided to replicate that into my photography, resulting a timeline of an experience, with various emotions accompanied with their context.

Masking is a facade to behave in certain ways that would help one hide their emotions and represses emotions that are not approved by those around them. Because a person wants to receive acceptance from the public, masking helps disguise characteristics like anger, jealousy or rage - emotions that would not be considered socially acceptable.
