Hand Carved Fruit Bowl - Woods 1 Final Project

Given as a gift to a close family friend, this bowl was completed as my final project for a level 1 woodworking class. Carved from a solid block of Poplar, the top of the bowl is painted with a slate milk-paint, bearing intaglio carvings which reveal the bare wood below. The entire bowl is treated with salad-bowl oil as a sealant, and also ensures that - unlike in the cases of other oil treatments - the bowl remains food-safe.
Measuring only 14" in length, with a shallow relief serving as the "bowl", this piece is intended not necessarily as a containing vessel, but rather a pedestal  showcasing the form of whatever fruits it may bear - its neutral colour emphasizing the vibrancy of the bowl's contents.
