I am currently studying in Rhode Island School of Design and I can easily describe my experience in Providence, as being out of my element. This has always brought me to question what home is and how the surrounding places affect my perception of that. I would not label myself as being homesick, more like out of place.

Majoring in architecture, I have studied space and place extensively, realizing just how complex they can be. There are some basic principles as to how a space can be made effective but they are all very subjective. At the end, how do humans interact with space? With the aid of architects, both public and private spaces are separated and thus our interactions made specific.
I photographed students doing private actions in their dorms. I then further displaced them in a completely different space by photo manipulation. The act of displacing someone in an image is used as a gesture that lends itself to the concept. I also chose to do photo manipulation because I am changing the context of the space, which is the role of an architect. This act of displacing emphasizes the difference between a private and a public space. I chose spaces which have symbolisms to basic architectural theories and dogmas.

This series has become both an architectural study as well as the human condition.
