Acrylic painting of a koi fish on a circular canvas
I have always admired the beautiful colours and different patterns of koi fish, and they have been an inspiration throughout my art a couple of times. I wanted to improve upon my acrylic painting, so in October 2020 I re-created my old fish painting in acrylic on paper from 2016.
My fish painting from 2016 (above to the left) - I got inspired of a koi fish drawing I found on Google. (above to the right).
After painting my background in different nuances of pink, I sketched the outline of my fish with a pencil. When I was satisfied with the general form, I used a black pen to highlight the shape. Next, I started painting the scales of the fish.
Throughout the process I ended up re-painting my fins and tail multiple times until I finally felt satisfied with the colouring of them. ( The third picture to the left was the final product of fins & tail).
Beside using acrylics and black pen, I also drew with a metallic turquoise pen on the fish scales so when light hits the scales, they reflect.
