Subnautica Collector's Edition

Context
This project was created as part of my degree at Yoobee Colleges. We were tasked with creating a special edition of an item, using special treatments, diecuts, and inks. While the items at this stage are only mockups, I am intending on printing them out and creating the packaging.
For my item, I chose the video game Subnautica. Subnautica is an underwater survival/exploration game. Throughout the game, the player slowly discovers the mysteries of the world they have found themselves on as they investigate their environment and dive ever deeper.
Contents
I designed a Collector's Edition of Subnautica, theorizing what its contents could be. I decided to include a hardcopy of the videogame, an OST CD, a mapbook, and a concept art book. These contents would come in a magnet box for shelf display, and that box would come in a waterproof case which could then be used for other purposes.

I designed the ocean pattern and artwork for the package redesign, and then mocked up each item in photoshop. The illustrations of the sea emperor and peeper were hand-drawn in photoshop.
Waterproof Case
The case is made of hard, durable plastic, and is entirely waterproof. It clips closed, and has a carry handle. The customer can reuse the case for other purposes if they like, otherwise the case holds all the other items.
Clamshell Box
The box is inside the waterproof case. It can be used for shelf display if the customer wishes to use the waterproof case for other purposes. The clamshell box is made from thick board and the lid is held closed with small magnets. The black wave pattern on top of the lid is treated with spot UV, so it shimmers in the light like water. The words are treated with gold foiling.

When the lid is open, an illustration is hidden inside. This is treated with gold foiling as well. The items in the collection are resting on black foam, which has indents for them to sit in. There are three layers, the top with the OST and the game cd, the second with the mapbook, and the final with the art book.
Artbook
The artbook has spot UV on the black lines of the wave pattern, to make them shimmer like water. The title is treated with gold foiling. On the back cover is an illustration of a Sea Emperor, one of the final in game monsters. It is treated with gold foiling. Inside the book is concept art, some which has been released to the public and some that have not been. There is additional developer notes and commentary.
Mapbook
Maps aren’t available in game. This map book can supplement exploration and understanding of the game. The pages are semi-transparent, each tinted a different shade of blue, getting darker as the pages progress. The see through pages allow the user to see where different parts of the map lines up, as the game has several layers of caves overtop of one another. The map book is held together with a binding screw, so that the user can pull out a single map if necessary. It’s practical, reminiscent of the games utilitarian base design. There is gold foiling on the title of the map book.
Original Sound Track
The OST CD includes all 56 songs from the subnautica soundtrack. The slip case is made from thick paper, and folds open to access the cd and the songlist. It has a list of the names of each song, coloured in gold. An illustration of the peeper fish is on the cover, treated with gold foiling. The title is also treated with gold foiling.
PS4 Case
The final item included in the collector's edition was the game itself. I also redesigned it's cover, following the theme and artstyle of the other items.
