Data Visualisation Project:
Foodbank Australia Hunger Lunchbag
This project required the representation of extensive data and information regarding food insecurity in Australia, to be represented in physical form. I created this lunch bag and infographic tag to create awareness surrounding this issue.
Gathering information surrounding food insecurity and the work that Foodbank does across Australia was extremely eye-opening and motivated me to create a product that both informed people as well as provided a means of fundraising for the organisation. Intended for sale in supermarkets, the lunch bag itself is comprised of several elements that represent statistics surrounding food insecurity. The handle, front pockets and even the size of the internal compartment all represent startling figures of who is most likely to experience food insecurity and which age groups receive support from Foodbank.
From prototype to wonky sewing, this project enabled me to use data and data visualisation to inform the Australian public and challenge the stereotypes surrounding those who experience food insecurity. The aim was to get everyday people who may be doing their grocery shopping to stop and think about those who don't have consistent access to food, and donate to Foodbank as a result.
