Manufacturers of Insoluble Sulfur

We might have not noticed but rubber is everywhere from the insulated wires of our chargers to the tires of cars we drive. There are even storage cabinets that are made with rubber and last long. But do you know all this won’t be possible with industrialists won’t find a way to stop sulfur blooming in rubber?

As both natural rubber and synthetic rubber are hydrocarbons and are thermoplastic in nature.

In order to eliminate this undesirable property of rubber, it is treated with sulfur. Now, using the crystalline organic sulfur won’t be of any use. As natural sulfur is somewhat soluble in the polymer (or in rubber). If one still decides to use the organic sulfur it will be dissolved into the rubber during the hot mixing, and later during the cool down, it will come back at the surface of rubber in form of bloom. Sulfur blooming affects the physical appearance of the rubber product.

To prevent this from happening a different grade of sulfur is used, it is called insoluble sulfur. Being a homopolymer, it creates a long-chain compound, which eliminates the chance of blooming by keeping the sulfur inside and not allowing it to crystalize on the surface of the rubber. Adding insoluble sulfur also helps to make rubber products last long and offers added physical properties to it.
