Brief: Create a postable small product, object, idea or message that when mailed, will change the world for the better.

Rationale

“Love! Love! Love! with The Beatles”

When we were given this assignment I knew from the get go I had to do something revolving love. What could change the world? What can change the world? Love. How better to spread love than with songs by The Beatles.

Growing up I was heavily influenced by the music my father introduced me to and of course, one of those bands were The Beatles. As any person who knows of The Beatles, the main theme of their songs were about love. Their perspective on love shaped how I viewed love growing up, I always cherished the purity of it. Their songs have taught me that love in any shape and form is all you need to go through this journey of life. So that’s why my main message for this is about self love.

“Love! Love! Love! with The Beatles” intends to spread the message of self love through song lyrics by The Beatles. The package is a paper tube which includes three mini-posters and two Beatles themed stickers. I picked the form of mini-posters so that it can be easily placed wherever the consumer wants to and whenever they see the poster they are reminded of the message of love.

My main colour theme is pink as the colour represents self love. I also picked a soft pink for the logo so it appears more calm and along with a rounded flowy font which adds a touch of playfulness to the character. I used brush script fonts for the lyrics in the posters so they appear more friendly to the viewer rather than having a font that makes them feel like the message is being forced onto them.

Poster Rationales
Lyrics Poster 1

“The love you take,
Is equal to the love you make.”

This lyric is derived from the song “The End” from the renowned Abbey Road album. This is actually known as The Beatles farewell song as Abbey Road was their last album they recorded as a group. The message I want the viewer to take from this is that a person’s acceptance of love dictates their ability to love themself and others.

Lyric Poster 2

“Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day,
The sun is up, The sky is blue,
It’s beautiful and so are you.

This lyric is from “Dear Prudence” from The White album. I’m quite fond of this song and was inspired to use this lyric because of the Across The Universe (2007) film. I have seen that film countless times and the scene with this song never fails to bring a smile to my face. The main characters in the film are coaxing the character “Prudence” to come out from hiding.

What I truly want the viewer to feel when they see this poster is that the world is beautiful, they are beautiful, so don’t hold back from experiencing and enjoying it. Also, the reason I used Sakura flowers is because they represent optimism which goes along with the message of seeing the beauty in everything, the sun, the sky and within yourself.
Lyric Poster 3

“All you need is love”

This lyric is from The Beatles most celebrated single “All You Need Is Love”. This was an obvious choice for me, as the message of the song transcends time and space. It has and will continue to have a profound effect on those from all walks of life. Love is not tangible so grasp the feeling within you, all you need is love and that starts with you.
