This brochure was designed as an exploration in long form type treatment. Using a combination of text and imagery, I created a layout and design theme that teaches a brief history on bookbinding. After researching different binding methods, I settled on using coptic binding for the step-by-step lesson. Using pictures of each step and descriptions, I take the reader through the coptic stitch binding process. This was inspired by illuminated manuscripts that I saw during my research process. I illustrated the tools that would be used if someone wanted to begin binding their own project. Many people do not have all of these tools at their disposal, so the illustrations provide more context to the name of the tools. A light cream is the main color of this brochure to evoke the feeling of aged paper. In addition, a rich brown is used to further add to the feeling of aged binding materials. Green was chosen as an accompaniment because green is a calming color that would be soothing during the learning process if someone decided to follow the step-by-step instructions.
