For my final project on my Design History and Context class at UCLA Extension I decided to design a poster for Broadway’s Hairspray musical. I chose this play because I like their brand identity and how colourful it is, making me want to design a poster for it myself. The play has a bunch of socially inspired messages. It's about a plus-size teen girl determined to dance on a local television show redefining their beauty standards and desegregating the cast. It transmits the message that everyone should be celebrated, no matter your size, your color, where you’re from or what lifestyle you live.
I decided to go with the psychedelic poster style because of their stunning vibrant colours and it ended up working really well for a musical.
