aWAY: A pilgrimage

Being away. Finding a way to deal with loss and separation. Finding one's way in the world.
This artist's book is a poem to family ties and to the possibility of mending that which seems broken, through words. In an act of personal archaeology, I put together bits and pieces of cloth, wool, embroidery, mirrors, and other trinkets and mementos that I collected for the past 15 years, as I traveled through India, and moved from Peru to Vancouver. Tiny pouches hold hand-written poems, while words hide under flaps or fly out of patches to create this emotional map, as reflection of my pilgrimage. As a way to cope while away.
