With the outbreak of the coronavirus, Taiwan is now in short supply of protective equipment. Manufacturers from all over the country have been using different tools and methods to provide alternatives to the protective equipment.

The surgical masks worn by the general public and medical staff cannot fit all the wearers’ face shape because it is single size. It is easy to leak on both sides of the bridge of the nose, on both sides of the cheeks and under the chin. The main reason for leakage is the junction between the face and the mask is not completely close so the expected protection effect cannot be obtained. However, there are still limitations in the research and application of related customized masks. The main reason is that the operation and modeling are composed of CAD software. The complex operation logic and model construction process cannot be directly operated and constructed by the general public or medical staff, or the conceptual model has not been tested for tightness and is not clear about the feasibility of customized masks.

Based on the above existing limitations and problems, this research proposes a customized mask system architecture. Its technology uses visual programming to construct a parametric model, starting from the spirit of Fablab.

The non-contact 3D scanner (3D scanner, Shining 3D, Einscan Pro 2x plus) is used to scan the subject's face, and the face model data is obtained and exported to STL file format. The collected face scanning is redirected, the scanning file is translated and rotated to the XY plane, and the complete face is presented from the previous view angle, which is defined within the limit. Import facial mesh data into automatic mask system.
Design for additive manufacturing ( DFAM )
DFAM design method can reduce 41% of the process time and 53% of the material consumption.

Customized mask material selection conditions, under the best existing conditions (listed in sequence):
1. Mask face: made of hot-melt filaments, using PLA filament material, to achieve environmentally friendly and fast production capacity.
2. Filter material: The same medical surgical mask (three layers), the first layer of PP water-repellent non-woven fabric, the second layer of melt-blown non-woven fabric, and the third layer of composite fiber non-woven fabric.
3. Filter material fixing part: It is made of hot-melt filament and adopts TPE filament material. This part needs to ensure that the filter material is completely fixed and pressed into the face body, and the elastic material TPE is used.
4. Sealing ring: Elastic 50A Resin resin material is used in the SLA process, where it needs to be fitted to the facial skin and needs to have high softness and skin-friendly properties. The flexible resin is a resin with a Shore hardness of 50A.
