Final Project: Gift Booklet

Here is my final project for my Typography class, we were assigned to design a 12-page inspirational gift booklet to give to a friend.

My booklet contains a General Conference Talk from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, if you are unfamiliar with what that is I invite you to check out https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/
The talk I used was "Hearts Knit Together" by Elder Gary E Stevenson, and you can find it here.

I didn't have a lot of time to put into the design so I went for something simple but effective. I chose an unsaturated, subtle color scheme of mauve, burgundy, grey, black, and white. The colors pink and red are stereotypically associated with love, so that is what inspired my selection.

For my typefaces I used:
Baskerville MT Pro for the main title,
Trade Gothic Next MT Pro for the author name,
Avenir Next MT Pro for headings and quotes,
and Bembo Book MT Pro for the body text.
I chose two sans-serif fonts and two serif fonts so that there would be contrast within the booklet, Trade Gothic Next Condensed was used for the long author name so that it would fit cleanly into the design, while the wider Avenir Next was used to take up space and stand out, drawing the reader's attention to quotes and headings.

Overall it was a fun project that pushed me to plan a design that was consistent and visually appealing. There are some things I would do to improve it if I had more time, but I learned a lot by doing this. It was a really good final project to end the class with.
