Illuminated Pinata

I L L U M I N A T E DĀ  P I N A T A

The context of this whole project is to create a character that represents your own personalityĀ in the form of a pinata.

Research and sketches :

During this project period, I was struck with creative block TT so I did not know what kind of character to design and where to start. In order to have just a little bit of progression, I did some research on my personality by taking personality tests and identified some of my interests or animals that represent me the most. After that, I did some doodles and sketches related to my research and achieved this right here.

After a the random sketches, I figured some ideas and immediately put them on peper so that I wouldn't forget. These are the idea sketches I came up with after weeks of brainstorming.

After some discussions and opinions, I decided to go with my 2nd design as I think it represents me the most. I did include the beard from design 3 into this final design because I though the overall face will look too plain.

Progression :

I have no idea why the pictures are rotated but here are my progression pictures. I used a balloon and cereal box to get the overall shape of the pinata and used some shredded newspaper with a mixture of flour and water to get the newspaper to stick on the balloon so that the surface will harden. Then, I used tinfoil to get the base colour of my pinata. For the cat's tail, I researched and asked some people about how I was supposed to create it and I ended up by making pompom balls with white yarn and attach them together using a wire to form a tail. For the deer antlers, I scrunched up some tinfoil and for the eyes and beard, I used some extra card pieces. I painted an onion pattern on another piece of paper. Finally, I attached all the elements onto my pinata.

Final result :

From the final result, basically, the tin foil represents howĀ even though grey is a boring colour, the tinfoil creates that shiny effect to show how I am a boring yet interesting person at the same time :D The deer antlers represent my spirit animal determined by my family. The eyes show the shape of the moon which is one of my favourite things in the world. The cat's tail is in the position of covering itself to show how I am a secure/closed type of person. The onion pattern represents how I think onions describeĀ my personalityĀ (lots of layers). Finally, I decided to include the beard because it is one of the features from my MBTI personality type character, The Advocate.
