A Virtual Archipelago of Idiosyncrasies

For eight days in the summer of 2013 I traded life on one island, ‘Oahu, for life on another, Martha's Vineyard, an island off the coast of Massacusetts.

The Vineyard is well known as a haven for celebrities and those with both old and new money. However it is equally a diverse multicultural community. Its rural roots and agriculture, tourists, the summer people, the rich socialites, the Wampanoag Tribe the growing Brazilian culture, the vibrant artistic and cultural community, the struggling fishing industry are just some of the ideosyncrasies that make up the island's populace, and the 5 townships are equally diverse from each other.

Yet The Vineyard retains characteristics of community. It is safe, beautiful, and culturally rich. Many live here for its sense of community and some seasonal residents return year after year as much for the community as for the beauty.

I thought I knew what I was getting into when I booked that one week stay for myself and my son. We packed our bags, flew to Logan, rented a car, and boarded the ferry at Woods Hole in our car. I thought I would have an enjoyable change from Hawaii.

Little did I know that "Martha", this virtual archipilego of ideosyncrasies, would sneak past my defenses and become a seductress whose charms I cannot forget.
Thanks for Visiting! I appreciate it.
