JERSEY DESIGN 2019 - Bowral to Bondi

In 2019 I designed a cycling jersey for a challenging fundraiser bicycle ride. I was pretty excited to visualise my client's call to action and enhance their adventure with a storytelling textile wrap. It was for a great cause and close to their heart.
Brief
The design would reflect:
1. The beneficiary of the fundraiser - Lymphoma Australia.
2. The starting and ending locations of the bicycle ride - Bowral to Bondi Pavillion.
3. The story and impetus behind my client's voluntary organization of the endurance ride.
After researching and ideating (see further below) on the journey between the two distinct places I found myself starting to split the upper and lower parts of the artwork into imagery and text reflective of each location. I created various renditions based on experimentation with landscape forms and colours.
The small butterfly and cricket cap graphics, changing the third row typeface and treatment for something happier and selecting a new colour were some of the alterations developed within the feedback loop established with my client to ensure the visuals harmonised with the emotional presence of the brief.
In the end it was more about the journey than the places visited.
Lucy was a cherished friend who fought and endured a battle with Lymphoma. She loved blue butterflies.
The artwork might have featured surf life savers and other symbolic sights to reflect the NSW town of Bowral. The tulips and life guards would be in highlighted in blood red, a colour theory reference to the vitality and warmth of cancer survivors, fighters, volunteers and their loving supporters. We went with a softer, yet still bold colour scheme.
