RULES IN ART-MAKING: a collaboration with Max Lloyd.

I began to look into the difference between objectivity and subjectivity surrounding communication based work. Inspired mainly by On Kowara’s ‘I Got Up’ postcards and Anne Douglas’s sound drawings, we would follow the same instructional words and make sculptures from those instructions without showing the other. The process made completely different shaped and coloured abstract sculptures despite both following the same words which included ‘twist, intertwine, wave, bend and roll’.
Taking our past sculptures we thought about how they would be presented. Traditionally art is made and presented in the context of a gallery or museum, as that is currently unavailable, we decided to circulate our sculptures - now in a much easier handleable ball shape - into every day life, passing them from person to person and encouraging them to pass them along too. The aim of this was to not only show our work outside of traditional gallery context but too encourage communication whilst still continuing to play around with the rules of possessing a ball sculpture.
