“In Bloom” is a range of utility bags developed using the traditional craft of papermaking. The designs reflect the spirit of the independent woman today who is open to experimentation.

This range of bags (Clutch, Tote, Wallet and across body bag) was developed as a student project in collaboration with the Khadi Village Industries Commission (KVIC). The primary inspiration behind the choice of the material was its versatility, durability, strength, sustainability & varied choice of colors. The motivation was to explore other endless possibilities beyond the conventional techniques and applications of hand-made paper. During the exploration certain techniques such as folding, stitching, coiling were focused on and evolved into the final lifestyle produt.

Combining paper with other materials can lead to the development of a whole new range of innovative products with enhanced value. This can also prove to be helpful to the Khadi Industry in terms of expansion of their existing product range, alongside providing livelihood to the artisans.

This project bagged the Design Excellence Award in the Battle of Design Projects (Crafts) at the Pune Design Festival 2013, organized by ADI (Association of Designers of India) and endorsed by the India Design Council.
