Founded in 2005, the DC Students Construction Trades Foundation provides hands-on learning experiences to high school students to help them succeed in school and develop rewarding careers. As part of its programming, the nonprofit organization teaches students skills to design and construct residential buildings. Thus far, the students' work (supported by the foundation and its partner Academy of Construction & Design) has resulted in two new buildings in the Washington DC area, including a home located on East Capitol Street.
The funds from the sale of the East Capital Street home will be used to finance the next project. Additionally, the students involved in its design and construction will be able to add the project to their resumes and demonstrate that they have developed soft skills such as punctuality, teamwork, and working in challenging environments.
