Adaptive Reuse Architecture

REUSE.

Project for a completion of a building from the 19th century in Puglia (Italy), which remained unfinished and improperly occupied by garrets.
Starting from the survey and the critical analysis of elements and proportions, the solution adopts a modern design approach where, while ensuring the maximum volume allowed, is still readable the addiction from the preexistence. The composition of the façade is respected in some elements such as openings, balconies, parapets. The new skin made of vertical terracotta slats gives a sculptural quality to the addiction where shadows contrast with the luminosity of the historic stone wall.
In the angular terrace, due to volumetric restrictions, the outer wall is evoked by a diaphragm of slats
which recreates the integrity of the volume while providing the view to the main street.
