Bioplastic Packaging

BIOPLASTIC PACKAGING [2020]
Muji's current packaging mechanisms and materials consist of cardboard and plastic. Both these materials have severe effects on the environment, this project aims to tackle these problems by creating alternative and sustainable solutions to Muji's product packaging. The main material used to device the alternative material is gelatine, gelatine combined with glycerin provides a thin filament like material known as bio plastic, which is completely sustainable and biodegradable. Thus once the packaging has been used, it can be crushed and put into soil, serving as natural nutrients for plants.
in collaboration with Elina Lehmkhul, Carlos Loaiza, Laura Holtslag.
Primary experiments with gelatine based bioplastic to understand its form, flexibility and structure.
Exploration of material using non-toxic adhesives to create packaging.
Final product packaging using a Japanese wrapping technique without adhesives.
Fuel to Fuel Mechanism -  The bioplastic packaging is completely biodegradable leaving no waste materials behind.
