Conceptual Book Cover Creation
For this project, we have been asked to create three different book covers for a classic novel, of our choice, that portrays the message and theme of the book. The three cover variations and requirements are: typography only, physical elements, and designers choice. Each book cover should be highly conceptual and should the key essance of the storyline.
Book Summary:
The classic novel that I chose for this book is Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury.
Ray Bradbury’s novel Fahrenheit 451, is set in the futuristic 24th century,in a dystopian society. The main character, Guy Montag, is a firefighter, but not the kind that puts out the fires. He sets fires to homes of anyone that has possession of books and literature, according to the law set by the government. However, Montag soon begins to question his profession and overall, his quality and way of life.
Physical Elements Book Cover:
This book cover is successful because I was able to personify the match to make it look like a man sitting on a stack of books. The fact that his “head” is on fire could be a metaphor that his mind is on fire because of how the government is controlling and censoring their life. It could also be because he is feeling overwhelmed because he has books at home and is worried that his house will be the next one to be burned.
Typography Book Cover:
My typography book cover is successful because it uses the creative strategy of material change. I made flames out of book pages. This also fulfills the typography requirement because it is mostly typography.
Designer's Choice Book Cover:
This book cover is successful because I took a picture of a book with pages that looks like flames and blended it with a real picture of a flame. This makes it look like the book is physically turning into a fire. This uses the creative strategy of combination or physical shape similarity.
