Christa Casillas's profile

Meet Christa Casillas

Christa Casillas is a passionate teacher who lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. She has been working diligently for nearly ten years to provide children and teens of all ages with the best possible education she can provide.

Christa started her educational career at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She graduated from there in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education, letting her teach General Science. While working on her Bachelor’s degree, Christa Casillas also worked as a substitute teacher for Clark County School district. This allowed her to apply what she was learning to her job, leading to Christa developing classroom management styles for all ages.

After graduation, Christa Casillas became an intern for the Nevada State Museum and Historical Society. She worked on creating individual gallery packets for children visiting the museum on school field trips and with children’s groups. Her organized activities ended in Christa receiving high follow-up evaluations from teachers that brought their students there.

Upon leaving her internship, Christa Casillas spent seven years as a Clark County School District science teacher. She was able to apply her previous work and learning experiences to her job, integrating various teaching styles into her own teaching methods to accommodate each student’s learning style. Most importantly, Christa focused on maintaining a positive classroom environment for her and her students.

During this time, she went back to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, to receive her Master of Science in Middle School Math Curriculum and Instruction.

Christa Casillas’ time as a virtual math and science teacher for Nevada Connections Academy allowed her to improve her communication skills and adapt her teaching methods to a different form of education. She focused on incorporating technology into her weekly live lessons while maintaining a curriculum that met state standards. Christa also built a positive rapport with her students’ families so that they could collaborate and make sure that each student got the best possible education. She further facilitated this through virtual information sessions for prospective students and families.

Currently, Christa Casillas is an ESL/HSE teacher for the Community College of Southern Nevada. She uses her hard-earned knowledge and skills to incorporate math objectives and practical life lessons into her English lessons while modeling workplace readiness for her students. She further promotes community by planning group-led activities.

Outside of her work, Christa Casillas volunteers with her community. She is particularly passionate about advocating for homeless services and does what she can to help those in need. In the past, Christa has volunteered with the Nevada Homeless Alliance and the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth to provide adults, teenagers, and children with clothes, food, hygiene products, and critical resources.
