Newly Formed - Zoomorphism - Project Prompt
For this assignment, I went on a long journey of exploration; I was interested in the stories tied zoomorphic deities & stories. What stood out to me is how they had a serious tone or message behind them back when the story was first told.
While I was reading these stories I was trying to imagine how these zoomorphic creatures would look like which made me realize that we all have different associations & imaginations of these superstitious/ religious figures. And our perceptions of them gives them meaning and power.
And What stood out to me was how the way the deities and goddess were presented in. Most of the time they had a serious tone and sense of authority. The way they’re drawn or showcased in book there’s a clear sense of hierarchy and authority which enforces obedience & fear from the viewer.
Greek sculptures are seen as perfect and sacred so I definitely wanted to play with that medium and kind of situate these forms  in a diff context. I used clay because that medium has been used in either sculpting deities & forms or used as a canvas to fell a story.
I wanted to create a book that is the opposite of serious & opposite of sending or telling a specific story. Which is why I created clay forms that are palpable, affable, and easy to approach.  I wanted to change the context in which these stories take place in which is why you can notice a play in conjunction in my posters.
Another aspect that I was interested in was the Latin words and how some names have different meanings in modern day English now or are used in different contexts, so I also wanted to incorporate that in my book.
The text deployed in the background is all extracted from stories about deities or articles about the usage of words that we have associations to in modern world that are completely different from their latin or root meaning.
