A research-led, self-initiated project in response to the genre of Hyperpop. Hyperpop is a music genre of Maximalist pop music: pushing traditional pop music tropes, like saccharine lyrics, synthetic beats and repetition, to their absolute limit.
The project was mainly influenced by Chinese Maximalism, particularly the works of Hong Hao and Ding Yi. Maximalism is denoted by tropes like repetition, layering, pattern and use of personal possessions.

Appearence of Crosses by Ding Yi
In response to the research, I scanned in 400 of my possessions, keeping to a rectangular theme, like birthday cards, DVDs, etc., believing the personal aspects and theme of media were relevant and faithful to the idea of Hyperpop.
This was processed into simple, colour-coded grids, to emphasise pattern and repetition, as well as highlight the digital nature of Hyperpop; the music has a lot of digital effects, and the genre itself is heavily rooted in internet culture.
These grids were used to make 20 separate videos, to create colourful, vibrant, and somewhat gaudy effects, overwhelming the senses, which is all something Hyperpop strives for.
The videos are compiled onto a website for easy access, and to create more of a free audio/visual experience. Link at the top.
