World Map Wall Piece

This was a comissioned piece that I constructed for one of my close friends. They were looking for something very colorful and exciting to fill a large wall. This wall piece is constructed from 3/4 inch oak wood. It consists of three distinct layers. The background is a single oval cut out with a jigsaw. The second layer is a series of string that wraps around atleast 75+ different small nails. The top layer is also 3/4 inch oak wood but is cut out to be continents. The top layer is not laying flat on top of the bottom layer, there is a 3/4 inch space in between and the continents are held in by screws. All the wood is dyed with a mixture of water and inks. The final measurements for this is about 4 feet tall and 8 feet long.

As far as color goes, it is a little muchat times. But in a warm light the colors receed behind the string. The continents are orange, red, yellow, and green. These colors are common when looking at topography maps, or just over all elevation maps of the world. The background layer is obviously dark blues, dark greens, and dark purples, and some burgendy. These resemble the ocean and how vast it is. The string is a a multicolor string that goes from white, to olive green, to turquoise to orange. The colors blend in well with the background but also stand out enough that you can't miss the strong.
