Venice - An Aerial Art

"Venice is eternity itself !"

Joseph Brodsky was not wrong in his description of this magical city. There is not an ending to the mystical sights and scenarios waiting for those who never get exhausted from exploring. The aerial views of Venice are exciting and the scope for a refreshing design element lies deep within. This Print Design Project is an effort to bring out the beauty of aerial Venice on the folds of Textile.
The first stage of the Design Process was to develop an inspiration board containing within it the sources of inspiration for the motif forms, colors and textures at the same time. The sources of inspiration for this project includes undoubtedly the Venetian Beach, with its golden sands and blue waters. The color elements have been adopted from the vibrant Burano Island. These are blue, pink, yellow, cream, orange, green and grey. Motifs take cartoon like and hand-drawn simple forms. The textures have been inspired from the sands, waters and even the architecture of Venice.

Wanderlust is the constant mood that this Print Design collection unfurls. It has been righteously depicted in the moodboard that has been developed.
Mindmapping the concept was the next stage in which key terms and points were noted down and explored.
Motif Development: Motif development involved coming up with rough sketches first and later finalizing the best ones. The motifs majorly focus on the varieties of architectural structures found in Venice, keeping in mind the aerial point of view. These include the arches, domes and sophisticated rib vaults.  Apart from these, the infamous Gondolas and ships have surfaced in the design. Map-like motifs are also an addition. Some of the motifs have been manually colored and digitally manipulated, meanwhile,
some are purely digital in origin.
Texture Development: Textures inspired from the ancient brick walls, stone walls, sea water, sands and aerial view of Venetian City.
Different types of repeats have been tried out to come up with the final designs.
Straight repeat, mirrored drop repeat, diagonal repeats are some of them. The prints are specifically composed to provide a calm and exciting touch to the Home Textile Products. It creates an excitability to the whole Travel print and adds a new dimension to it; bright and pop colors, which are much less experimented with. Mix media techniques have been manipulated into prints that take the concept to a whole new level.
The Print Design Collection

Developing the print collection for Home was the final stage of the design process. To achieve the same, product mapping and rendering techniques were adopted using Adobe Photoshop.

The prints communicate the cool and simultaneously sophisticated aura of Venice. The 'Bustling Waterways' and the 'Pink Island' prints contain within them the busy scenes of the Port of Venice. Meanwhile, the 'Tricky Islands' and 'Map of Colors' transmit the inner peace and beauty of Venice that hides behind the city life.
