El Monte Nuclear Reactor

The aim of my class 'Worldsmith' is to develop a world though a range of images, a cinematic universe of Illustrations, in a sense. Given that I have on and off been developing spec-scripts for a series of Godzilla movies for the fun of it, it made sense to both the teacher, Lars Grant West, and myself, to explore the unique aspects of those scripts to develop my very own Godzilla World.

El Monte is a suburb of Los Angeles, and where the events that set my world into motion begin. In 2017 what was thought to be Uranium was discovered at the city's Gravel mines. The area around the mines were cleared of residents, and operations begun. However, within a few years, the project shifted from excavation, to construction. To the anger of the city of Los Angeles, the federal government pushed for the construction of a nuclear powerplant on-top of the mines.

Or so everyone thought...
The truth was far more complicated. What was discovered was not Uranium, but rather a cocooned kaiju, emitting radiation. This site was built to contain it, study it, and potentially convert its lifeforce into energy. This plan was doomed to fail though, as unbeknownst to the US Government, they were tampering with an ancient rival of Godzilla, and sending the king of the monsters on a collision course that could endanger millions.
