A Day in Neutrality
Over a long period of time, corsets have been symbolising contradictory messages of constriction and freedom, dominance and submission, femininity and power. While many people think of corsets as a feminine garment, there is nothing gendered about them. It has been misunderstood that corsets were used to beautify women, leading to the restriction of the garment's use.
Through the series, "A Day in Neutrality", I have attempted to breakthrough the misconception of corsets solely being designed for women. Not only were they worn by men, many used it to accentuate their torso in order to "beautify" it. By trying to give a modern touch to wearing a corset, I have tried to amplify the message that fashion has evolved. And so have our mental horizons. Anyone can wear what makes them happy.
